Core stability is used to describe the muscular control required around the lumbar spine, pelvic and hip region to maintain functional stability. The core serves as a natural muscular corset, where multiple muscles work together to stabilize the body and the spine. The core is often referred to as the ‘powerhouse’ or the foundation for all limb movement. The word ‘stability’ is used rather than strength to describe the core, as the ability to utilize muscular strength as well as endurance is required for its optimum function

Core stability retraining is important for many problems, including:

  • Low back pain
  • Hip/groin injuries
  • Women’s health – pre and postnatal
  • Pelvic pain
  • Shoulder biomechanics
  • Performance enhancement
  • ‘Pre-habilitation’ – injury prevention

Starting a core stability program at City Physiotherapy

On your initial appointment, your highly trained physiotherapist will conduct a core stability assessment and use these findings to develop a home exercise programme. During your appointment, your physiotherapist will ensure you are performing all exercises with correct technique. Your programme will be individualised to suit your goals and ability. All exercises prescribed can be performed at home with minimal equipment.

Each core stability appointment will be scheduled for 30 minutes and is priced at $90.

Private healthcare rebates are available through our Hicaps facility. Please request our Pilates trained physiotherapist (Damien Nicolo) for this service.
